Can this thing use both mics on the ios device at least for audio? I'm guessing not as I don't think that part of the API is open.

Take care

My iPhone 6S has a mic on the bottom left next to the headphone jack, then one next to the earpiece, then one on the back next to the camera.
I'm guessing the back one is used for video and the bottom left one for audio, but I can't be sure.

They were right, the quality is great! I'll definitely start recording podcasts with this thing.

The sound is amazing

If this app is not available in your country, you can consider creating another Apple ID for the United States. The last time I checked, you're not limited to your location. All you have to do is fill out the application for another Apple ID using information from a public place in America. As long as you're not buying anything from the App Store directly, and you only want to download free applications, this can totally work for you. If you can get your hands on iTunes gift cards for America, you could use that as a payment method in the future. The only thing is that you would have to switch accounts, but that shouldn't really be much of an issue. also, I realize that when creating new accounts, sometimes it's better if you go to the iTunes Store on your mobile device rather than the App Store directly, because the non-payment method doesn't always show up when using the App Store method.

I don't get it. The iphone mics suck, but most recording apps preach high quality. Not with a mic that has a cut off of around maybe 4 or 5 k. Yuck. Plus I don't think this or any other app takes advantage of the 2 mics for stereo recording which is a shame. Maybe one day.

Hi all,
thanks for your comments on this app. Glad you found it useful. here are some of the answers to the questions.
First, it works with the bottom mic on the iPhone as of right now. In order to experience the dolby sound, one must wear headphones, or earphones, to experience the dolby sound.
next, to the previous poster, I'm sorry to here that it's not available in your country, but maybe like what the other user said you can creat a new Apple ID for the US, then you can download the app. All in all, they, meaning the developers will continue to update the app with further accessibility fixes and enhancements. however, they are willing to take feature suggestions. you can do it from within the app, and it will open up the native mail app. or you can send them an email to:
dolbyonsupport@dolby.com
they always take your feedback and pass it onto the development team for future updates.

Okay not available in Sweden either. This sucks because the app seems really great, but not great enough for me to actually create an US Apple ID just to get the app.

By jcdjmac (not verified) on Thursday, October 24, 2019 - 04:16

Again, it's only available from within the US, not worldwide as with most other apps.

By KE7ZUM on Thursday, October 24, 2019 - 04:16

By the way, this is not true stereo. If you remember where thigns were, it is kind of a sudo stereo, not my cup of tea, but maybe one day this might use both mics if apple would allow that.

This app really records well. The sound quality is excelent and works with VO. I do have a question. My recordings pick up VO when I stop recording. How do I pause VO but yet get my iPhone to stop recording? I've had an iPhone since 2016 but have never tried to record audio with it. I've used my Victor Reader or my Olympus.

By jcdjmac (not verified) on Thursday, October 24, 2019 - 04:16

Hi Jason,
Glad you enjoyed it. here's my reply to your question. if you turn off speech, and have sounds turned on, make sure you stay on the stop recording button and don't move focus away from it. you can also wear earphones to avoid VoiceOver from bleeding into the recording. also, their's a switch to go from video to audio. it'll say switch to video, or audio, what ever comes first. hope that answered your question.

By tunmi13 on Thursday, October 24, 2019 - 04:16

What I do is record VO then later import into Hokusai and trim it.

By jcdjmac (not verified) on Sunday, November 24, 2019 - 04:16

Hi,
to answer your question, the app only streams to Facebook.

By Victor Tsaran on Tuesday, December 24, 2019 - 04:16

It’s great for turning mono recordings into something much better sounding! Of course, until Apple relaxes the use of stereo mics, this is the best the app can do!
Needless to say, huge thanks to the team for making the app accessible!

By Rammland on Tuesday, December 24, 2019 - 04:16

I got excited about this app and decided to try and use it myself. Then I discovered that it’s not available in the UK! I wish this had been mentioned on the AppleVis site then I could’ve saved some time.

By Sabrina on Friday, April 24, 2020 - 04:16

I don't know if it is because of the headphones or the app but it records VO.

By Macky on Friday, April 24, 2020 - 04:16

This app is fantastic. Regarding avoiding getting VoiceOver on your recordings, flick to the record button, mute VoiceOver with a three finger double tap, double tap with one finger to start the recording as the VO cursor is on record, then when you are finished you can use the two finger double tap to stop the recording. Sorted. Delighted this app is now available in the UK. Thanks to the developers for their work on accessibility, it's perfect.

By Bobcat on Thursday, September 24, 2020 - 04:16

I already love this app. I've only used it for a few minutes and I just love the way it improves my voice. It's also so easy to use. One of the best blind friendly apps I've ever used.
Just a note about tools::;You can change sound by using different features under tools. To adjust the value of a tool select the tool you want then activate it. switching focussed to the tool doesn't activate it so you need to double tap with voiceover once to select it then double tap again to open the intensity screen.I happen to be using a $20 pair of Panasonic earbuds with remote and Mike. It does an awfully good job boosting the level of The microphone.

By Mathus on Thursday, September 24, 2020 - 04:16

Does someone manage to stream public to Facebook? Even if my setting is public, it only streams to me only and I have to change the privacy settings afterwards to public in Facebook for the live post.
Great app!!

I have a iPhone xr. Is it possible to record stereo?

By Bobcat on Thursday, November 24, 2022 - 04:16

I have an iPhone 13 mini. I've got lots of microphones but it only uses the bottom mic.

I found trimming wasn't as fine control as I needed.

So I really enjoy playing accessible games for the visually impaired. Gives me a great way to cope with my anxiety issues. I used Dionne to start live streaming to twitch last night. One thing I’ve noticed, is that I can’t change the title of the stream within the Dolby on app. So if I go back and look at my videos later on twitch, it always says the same thing Dawncaster. For example my introduction video last night that’s not what I wanted it to be. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I did come across an option to change the title of the live stream, but it said the text field was dimmed and it wouldn’t allow me to do it.
