Chantlings

Description of App

It was a summer night when a few curious beings met around the forest clearing. Through the language of chant they started forming their bonds. Now they are ready for you.

Chantlings is a singing app for the iPhone and iPad. It was made for anyone brave enough to explore the colors and shapes of their voice.

Accessibility Comments

This app is not traditionally very accessible, but I thought it worth putting here because you can tap on the screen to add/remove voices. If you wear headphones, you will hear where the Chantlings are in your stereo field. Tapping on the screen on the bottom left/right and top left/right will start the various voices singing. I also think you can slide your fingers up and down to raise and lower the notes they sing, although this is less exact and I'm not sure how to do it consistently.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads no page elements.

Button Labeling

No buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some accessibility issues with this app, but it can still be used if you are willing to tolerate these issues and learn how to work around them.

Other Comments

If anyone thinks this accessibility rating needs to be adjusted, feel free to let me know and I will shift it. It's a bit of a fiddly edge case because a lot of the app can be used even if not convenient. It's a really, really beautiful app sound wise and I encourage anyone who feels they might have a use for it to ask the devs about making it accessible.

Do you play a game or just raise and lower sliders?

It's not quite a game, more like an interactive experience. You can raise or lower the notes if you want to, but mostly you sing and these creatures sing along.
