Accessibility Comments

this app is 95% accessible. The only issue I have noticed is it is not possible to add an emergency contact with voiceover on. When you go to the screen to see all of your contacts, at the bottom of the screen, there is a note about Your emergency contact getting a text after you add them, and below that a add contact button. However, voiceover leads this as one element and does not read anything of this. If you would like to add an emergency contact, turn off voiceover, and press the button at the very bottom of the screen and then you can turn voiceover back onto select contact.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads most page elements.

Button Labeling

Most buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some minor accessibility issues with this app, but they are easy to deal with.

Other Comments

this app is good for situations where you may need help but you are not exactly sure where you are at. This is because an ADT agent will share the details you provided to emergency services and then it shares your location as well. You can also add a widget to your home or lock screen to get help quicker.

Earlier, I went into the app and noticed something. There was a big red banner at the top of the screen that said that this app is shutting down on March 2, 2026. I already know that this app is no longer available when clicking a link to view this in the App Store. I wonder if this app did not get enough downloads or that it needed to get money somehow and no one paid for it so it’s going out of business? One feature I believe we saw before it disappeared again was the SOS video option. What this would do is it would create a video call with an agent where they can see exactly what’s going on. Even though this is showing down, I do know that 911 dispatchers can use video response where a account would come up if you call 911 and they request a video and you can choose to send over your live video feed. The good news is that I haven’t actually had to test this out. Let’s hope I never have to test out the 911 dispatch live video feature. That would be cool though to see it in action.

This sounds a lot like Smart911, and I enjoyed your audio walkthrough of the app. The reason I bring up Smart911 is that it sounds a lot like this app. I heard about that service several years ago from a staffer at a nonprofit disability-related organization which I'm in. I've never tried out their app, nor have I had to utilize the service. But last I checked their website was pretty accessible with VoiceOver.
