Description of App
Track how far you walk and how many steps you take. Always on, works on all iPhones.
Steps is a pedometer and activity tracker. It shows you just how much you're moving in a simple, elegant way. Set a goal. As you walk, the colors change to show your progress like a sunrise. No noise, no extra gadget to wear and nothing to distract you.
Everyone should walk 10,000 steps every day for their health, but many of us don't go that far. With Steps, you can easily track how far you go every day, set a goal, and get moving!

A NOTE ON BATTERY LIFE WITH IPHONE 5 AND 5c
To track your activity in the background on the iPhone 5 and 5c, Steps keeps track of your location. We've gone to great lengths to minimize battery use and make sure your charge still lasts all day, but there's no getting around some impact on your battery. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
Comments
I only have one issue.
I have tried and tried to upgrade, but whenever I do, it just sits there. Otherwise, works great with VoiceOver and braille display.
Latest version
Hi,
I really enjoyed this app until the version which came out around the 17th of September. Now when I track a walk, it makes me map the workout. News flash, I'm walking on a treadmill, so I don't need or want this app to ever use my location! If I turn location off for this app, and track a walk, I can't see my walk stats like active time, calories, etc. Any suggestions? I wrote to the developer when this version came out, but never heard back.
I highly recommend
I use Steps every day to track my treadmill walk. I just turn the Map Workout off. I love this app.
the latest version
Hi,
I noticed in the latest version of this app, when you turn off the "Map workout" feature, voiceover doesn't read the time, distance, calories, etc. There's just a pause button. But then when you turn on the map workout, the pertanent info shows up again. Totally not fair, especially on a treadmill walk! :( I wrote to the devs, but haven't heard back.
Discrepancy between health app and steps
Hi. I’ve been doing steps to raise money for Guide Dogs UK and noticed that my Steps activity tracker differs significantly from the number of steps shown in my health app on my Apple Watch. Any ideas why? Yesterday, my Steps app was about 500 steps less than the Apple health app. Today, there’s about 200 steps in it and it is the Steps app that is showing the most number of steps. I’m running on an iPhone 12 mini with the latest iOS and the latest watch software.
Discrepancy with Watch
Hi,
Developer of Steps here. Someone kindly alerted me to some questions in this thread,
Kerry, thanks for raising your question! For you, or anyone else with an Apple Watch having trouble with step counts or other data not matching up: the counts should definitely match! When they don't, the issue is usually that Steps doesn't have the data permissions it needs.
We actually use Apple Health's syncing mechanism to get data from other devices. Without that, you'll see just the activity recorded on the device you're viewing on and it might not match. Here's how to grant that permission: open Steps, tap the settings icon (upper left corner of the screen), then tap Show Introduction and allow any permissions it asks for. Then, open the Settings app on your phone. Go to Privacy > Health > Steps and turn all the switches on.
I'm around to help if that doesn't fix things or for any other questions. The best way to reach out is to tap Get Help on the Steps settings screen and send a message that way. Or, you can email support@yearofcode.com.
Workouts without a map are fixed
I also want to say a quick thanks to Moopie Curran for their bug report about workouts without the map turned on. This was indeed a bug with our VoiceOver support!
That's fixed in version 1.7.24 or newer, that we released around the beginning of April 2022. So if you use the app today, workouts without a map should read correctly.
Reports like that are incredibly helpful so thanks again.
