Being a fan of bowling, I thought I'd give this game a try. From what I've heard the background sounds of the bowling alley are pretty good, and the music is alright. What this game really needs though are accessible instructions. I'll admit, I haven't explored everything, but what I did find was a "How to Bowl" button that brings up a video with, from what I can tell, no narration (I closed it after waiting awhile). After I got into the playing phase, I discovered that when you turn VO off, there is a button in the centre of the screen that will make a noise when tapped. Other than that, tapping it by itself does nothing as far as I know. Instead you have to tap and hold your finger on it, then slide quickly towards the top of the device in portrait mode. This will get the ball going, but so far all I've gotten are gutter balls, though I've knocked down maybe only a few pins. With no play-by-play commentary, it's hard to know what I'm doing. In short, this game might be a good simulation, but I doubt I'm going to keep it on my iPod.

I would like to know a few things before getting this app. How do you know what pins are still standing after the first ball? What cues are there for a blind person to determine aim and timing? I do not want a game in which a guess might get you success. I want a game in which I know when and where to perform the necessary actions to achieve success. If Voice-Over will read some of the menus, what about the others? And if the help section is totally visual, in my opinion, that would be like getting 11 strikes in a row, followed by a strike in which you stepped over the foul line, scoring a 290 instead of a perfect game. Totally unwanted.

it would be nice if someone do a podcast on this game. is this game really a good game for total blind people? if there is no spoken instructions on how to play, then what good is this game?

There is no way in Haties a totally blind person can play Strike I tryed and no cigar. Fail to the max. Some people should test further before posting apps IMO.

I have figured out how to bowl, however, other than thatlittle bit of excitement, the game is completely useless. Unfortunately, seeing what's left, what you knocked down, and actually bowling well is completely impossible...I wouldn't waste the time downloading.

I have to agree with all of these comments. The app in my opinion totally sucksin terms if accessibility. All buttons are not clearly labeled, and there is no way to play even with vo on. I have since removed this game off of my phone.

Here is the email they sent me! Hi Hope Thanks for your email regarding strike. My partner has had experience of accessibility in other apps so It might be possible, however there's only 2 of us so I can't say for certain that we will be able to do it. We will have a look into it and see how we get on. If you could make this game with voice over so it can be on and be able to play the game it wood be great! Also very very appreciated very much by the blind community. I can not find an exsesable game for bowling for the blind that works with voice over. I use the Iphone 4's. So if we can make this work on all iphones and ipod touches and ipadds that wood be great thanks so very much!!!!!!!! Sincerely, Hope

Well, that's progress, somewhat. Can ou link them to this post and see if that helps? I think the more of us wrote on this post and the more the dev sees the feedback they might be able to prioritize. We'll see though.

good luck.

This game is an example of what I mean by usable but not accessible. There is a difference. See if you can beat my high score, 120.
