Redwall: Escape the Gloomer

Description of App

One of a series of six games, The Lost Legends of Redwall: Escape the Gloomer, is created in partnership with Soma Games under license from Penguin Random House UK™ and the Redwall Abbey company™. The Lost Legends of Redwall: Escape the Gloomer is a Conversational Adventure™ game in nine chapters developed by Team Clopas.

Based on the wildly popular best-selling book, Mossflower, and second in the twenty-two book series by Brian Jacques, this interactive tale immerses the Player in the exploits and redemption of Gillig the otter as he tries to overcome his weaknesses, limited resources, and the menace of the monstrous water rat Gloomer.

Before Redwall™ Abbey, there was Kotir Castle, an abandoned fortress built over a large lake near the River Moss. It was taken over by the wildcat Verdauga Greeneyes and his Thousand Eyes army of vermin. Upon his untimely demise, his daughter Tsarmina began her evil rule. Subjugating the woodland inhabitants of Mossflower, this cruel Queen reigned using the army of a Thousand Eyes to collect food tribute from the peaceful forest dwellers. In her arsenal was a very special living weapon. A murderous insane creature kept deep in the bowels of the castle. Captured by her father, Gloomer the Greatrat was rightly feared by all. In these ancient days lived mighty heroes such as Martin the Warrior and Gonff Prince of Mousethieves.

Now our would be champion, Gillig directed by the otter leader Skipper, has been given a very special solo mission. Retrieve an ancient scroll once belonging to Verdauga. On the verge of being exiled from the otter crew, Gillig sees this as an opportunity to prove himself to the otter tribe – if he can overcome his weaknesses.

Your story begins with a descent down a rope into a ruined otter holt near Kotir Castle. What happens next will be totally up to you.

Other Comments

It would probably be a great idea to write to the author and politely point out how great it would be for this one to become accessible, especially since the nature of the game lends itself so well to it. I'm sure they mean well but just haven't thought about it. In case they're low on resources right now, maybe someone should start a money pool or something similar. I, for one, would be ready to provide some funding as soon as I can find a way to do it from where I am, which may be tricky.

I love the Redwall books - this would be great if made accessible, though I wonder if they've likely made it with Unity, which is currently inaccessible out of the box. (Though they are apparently working on it.)

This is a bit extra sad, as the Redwall books, I believe, were originally written by Brian Jacques to be well suited for reading aloud to those who are blind. (I can't recall where I read this factoid off the top of my head, but this is a reason there are long, detailed descriptions of the scenery and, most especially, the food/drink that the animals eat. It was made to be more descriptive to help blind people visualize things better.) Brian Jacques narrated all of the audiobooks, too, and, sadly, I don't think they ever did get around to releasing the last 1-2 books as audiobooks after Brian Jacques passed away.

I'm a huge Harry Potter fan and thought that Stephen Fry would be the best narrator of all time, hands down,, that's it, end of story, but these audiobooks are equal to fries voices, or Dales', if you're into his reading of the books.

I could totally imagine being a kid and growing up with these stories, they sound wonderful.

This is Scott Adams of Clopas. We are working on getting accessibility into the game for all platforms including IOS, Steam and Android.

Currently the game is fully accessible on Amazon Alexa voice devices such as Alexa Echo. Search for "Redwall Escape the Gloomer" to enable it.

You may also access it via the Alexa app on IOS and Android if you have an Amazon account.

I live outside the US, and I can't find the skill. What do I need to configure in my Alexa app?
Why is it that, in the era of the world wide web, I keep running into those artificial borders placed by big companies (our real government) to keep us manageable by divide and conquer strategies? I'm sure the Illuminati are behind this.
Joking aside, I'd love to play this from where I am located, which I am at this point unwilling to disclose.
And now I'm going back to watching the chem trails.
Cheers Perry
