Accessibility Comments

seems accessible I have been able to read quite a lot of text in the game, though needs a lot of work on the interface as only a few buttons are labelled. I have been unable to find a direct contact email for the developer, but I managed to find a support page to contact them. For some reason it doesn't show up when you click through to the English homepage from the iTunes store, but when I googled for the developer I was able to find it. The address to the support page for anyone wanting to contact the developers is
http://www.ndemiccreations.com/en/1-support
on there you just have a simple contact form to fill out, I have done this explaining about VoiceOver and asking if they could consider making the game fully accessible, I have pointed them towards applevis and apples accessibility documentation. I think this game has great potential to be made accessible from the few minutes I have spent playing it.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

Few buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some accessibility issues with this app, but it can still be used if you are willing to tolerate these issues and learn how to work around them.

Other Comments

I have literally only spent about 5 minutes with this game, unlabelled buttons make it very difficult to use, but I was able to start a new game, and name my disease, though after that because of the unlabelled buttons you are stumbling around a bit in the dark, I will be interested in others comments, of course if we can establish contact with the developer then I am sure issues can be ironed out. Please note that this game isn't the same as Bio Inc. - Biomedical Plague which is made buy a different developer and is totally inaccessible.

Well after having had no reply to my contact form I submitted to the developer last week I decided to post on there facebook.
My first comment I got was from someone who seemed to find my post funny, so I replied explaining what VoiceOver was and the issues with the game and extending an offer to work with the developer on improving accessibility.
This is the response I got
That information was very useful, thanks Alex! We'd like as many people to have access to Plague Inc as possible so it's something we might consider in
the future :).

I am now going to leave it at that, but the lack of reply to my private contact to the developer and the facebook response doesn't exactly leave me optimistic I mean, might consider in the future, still I will keep an eye on this app and update here if anything changes, I don't think there is anything more I can do.

They do have a twitter account, maybe try tweeting them and those of us that follow you can rt and such.

Good luck.

Considering that the company probably goes through requests often, patience is important. I also submitted a request so we will see.

I suppose the thing is there are so many buttons its not really practical for us to label them all. also I read the help and spotted one game element that might need adapting for us, it said that to stop plains with researchers helping to create the cure we have to smash blue bubbles that appear.
another thing I think might need changing is on the settings screen it uses unlabelled buttons obviously the buttons either need labelling or even better if switches could be used in settings so we know the state of given settings that would be better.
The frustrating thing is its so close to being accessible and yet so far.
I think the key thing is not to annoy the developer they only said they might consider accessibility so I imagine it would be quite easy to put them off helping us as they are not exactly issuing a firm commitment to make the game accessible to begin with, I think my tweet and facebook post is enough, and at least they have had one other request so they know its not just one person interested in the game. I wonder if facebook is the way to go about requesting accessibility though as that's publicly viewable buy other game players, harder to ignore than a private message.

Well, I sent them a tweet regarding accessibility so we'll see. I hope they do take notice. Their twitter looks pretty cool though and I might follow them just to have more stuff to read.

I just heard back from them regarding their game and here's what they say.

Thanks - have read it and will bear it in mind but can't promise anything I'm afraid >

Sad really, but ther eyou go.

So, is this game playable? It is not only creating and evolving a disease, you need to tap some kind of bubbles to earn DNA points which are used to evolve.

By alex wallis on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 - 06:37

aah I hadn't picked up on the bubble part for dna points, though I had picked up on them for destroying planes. to be honest I haven't really tried much with this game because of all the unlabelled buttons.
Perhaps the accessibility info for this game needs changing, I would say its unlikely we will get accessibility added to the game judging buy the less than enthusiastic response from the developer. I mean if they were going to look at adding it I assume they would try to engage with us more.

Has anyone tried this game recently tos ee if it has improved? It's been 5 years since the initial comments, so I'm wondering.

It's a paid game, though (Only 99 cents, of course), but I haven't taken the plunge yet as I am not familiar with getting a refund if it turns out to not be accessible.
