Description of App

Lifeline is a playable, branching story of survival against all odds. Using your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch, you will help Taylor make life or death decisions, and face the consequences together.

Acclaimed writer Dave Justus (Fables: The Wolf Among Us) weaves a gripping interactive story through the aftermath of a crash landing on an alien moon. Taylor is stranded, the rest of the crew are dead or missing, and Taylor’s communicator can only reach you.

A totally unique experience enabled by modern devices, this story plays out in real time. As Taylor works to stay alive, notifications deliver new messages throughout your day. Keep up as they come in, or catch up later when you’re free. You can even respond to Taylor directly from your Apple Watch or your iPhone lock screen, without launching into the app.

Or, dive in and jump back to earlier points in the story, and see what happens when you make a different choice. Simple actions can have a profound effect. Complete any single path to restart the story and unlock this mode.

Lifeline is a deep, immersive story of survival and perseverance, with many possible outcomes. Taylor is relying on YOU.

Is this another text-based game?

As the description explains, it's a real-time text-based choose your own adventure.

I've been playing this game for a few days, and the only problem I've had so far is that it sometimes takes delight in refusing to let me get to the bottom of the screen.

On another note, the description doesn't make this clear, so I feel I should point it out for anyone else who might want to know. This game takes place in real time. You play it in tiny snatches over several days, not all at once. It's fun, but if you're the type of person who wants to sit down and play a game through, this one isn't for you. This is compounded by the notifications not making any sound, so if you're inattentive like me, try to remember that. In spite of these things, it's awesome! I get really excited when I see that I have more of it to play.

this game is accessible without trying, and I really like it.
The only annoying thing, and I don't know if this is accessibility related or not, is that every time I go back into the app I have to scroll a lot to get to the bottom and keep playing. Does anyone know if there is a quick way of getting to the end of the messages?
thanks.

When I launch the app, I wait for the beeping to stop, and touch the extreme bottom right of the screen, and it puts me at the bottom of the messages. If you touch the bottom while the messages are still printing (and you hear the Morse code beeping sound), it will jump you back to the top.

Alternatively, do a four finger single tap on the very bottom of the screen after the beeping is done.

I'm earing both good and bad things about this game. one of the complaints is it's good, but it's not worth the $3. I migh tstill try this game out when I get home hopefully from my trip. We'll see. It kin d of sounds interesting but it does not at the same time.

Hi! Ibought and installed Lifeline last night, and I've been playing it since then. I personally find the game interesting, and very good: it helps that I read this thread before playing the game, and I remembered the tip for finding the bottom of all the text before I played, so I don't have to scroll through hundreds of lines to continue; However, i do have a question, for which the answer may be useful to me in the future. I've heard several times that this game can be started again from the beginning, but how and when can that be done? Do we have to wait till the end of the game to start it all over again, or can we simply start from the top of the text again at any time instead of jumping to the bottom of the text to continue, Or is there a "start again" option somewhere, perhaps in the settings, that I haven't noticed? Right now I'm simply curious about restarting the game to try it with different choices, but in the future there may come a time when I actually want to do so.

You have to win at least once before you restart. Once you've one enough (I forget how many times...2 or 3?) it's no longer realtime, and you can just go back and change your choices and see all the things you missed without waiting.

By Clare Page on Thursday, May 21, 2015 - 17:22

Thanks for that information. I'm in the middle of playing Lifeline for the first time, so I won't be restarting yet: I just hope I won't end up regretting some of my choices during this first play-through of the game, although that hasn't been the case so far.

By fastfinge on Thursday, May 21, 2015 - 17:22

I won on my first play; this is the only choose your own adventure where I managed a win the first time. Though there were a couple places where I was absolutely sure I'd lost, but Taylor managed to pull herself back together.

By Clare Page on Thursday, May 21, 2015 - 17:22

You're so lucky, being able to win Lifeline on your first play, assuming winning means keeping Taylor alive for the whole duration of the tgame, however long that is! I haven't been so good at making the right choices, as I have sadly let Taylor die twice, although he survived longer in my second attempt to play Lifeline. In spite of my decisions having fatal consequences, I am not giving up on this game, even if it means starting it again several times to allow Taylor to survive as long as possible. At least I already know that there are some choices which I am better off avoiding! I won't give anything away as to which they are, though, that's for other new players to find out. However bad I am at making the right choices in lifeline, I like this game a lot and I definitely don't regret buying it at all.

By Lorelei on Thursday, May 21, 2015 - 17:22

Just play it like you're afraid of everything. lol. That's what I did, and Taylor was fine all the way to the end. Even after me being cautious almost got him/her, not really sure which, killed.

And here's my little bit of possibly useful info: Taylor is definitely male. Having accidently killed Taylor a few times, I got a message beginning: "Taylor has reached the end of his path", or something like that, each time I lost the game. I realise Taylor is a girl's name in some parts of the world, so I can understand the confusion about this unlucky young space student's gender.

Hi,

I just discovered this game on the MacSparky blog, and was about to submit a directory entry for it before I found this one. they have since added apple watch support. Guess I'm going off to that directory now.

I have downloaded the game now that it is free for the week, and I am liking it so far. I am not very far into the game. About how many days does it take to finish the game?
