Accessibility Comments

This app has proven to be very accessible. I am not certain if there are different scenarios to choose from when first starting out. I started out as a high school dropout and my gender and name were randomized. Once you start out, you will find that there are buttons (more like tabs) at the bottom of the screen going from left to right which enable you to get to different screens such as profile (to see your general statistics and purchase items, real estate, and vehicles), education, work, etc. You will be able to see what your health is (good, alright, declining, etc) which varies with your age. However, one thing that I haven't figured out is how to see those exact numbers as you have both physical health and mental health/happiness. However, if you do end up tanking your health to an unsafe level, you will get a warning pop-up which alerts you that you are severely depressed and/or unhealthy and will be dead in five weeks if you don't do something about it. This generally happens if you pull all-nighters all the time, as has happened to me, but good vacations, staying at the hospital, and schmoozing with family has helped with this. Every action in the game will affect your health and/or happiness in some way, and the game will let you know +12 +10 (which I think means mental/physical health, in that order), but sometimes you only have one value listed, and I think it will take some mental deduction to figure out if it will be mental or physical health being affected. You will be able to see your relationship values with family members and lovers, and you can see the personality traits of lovers, such as abusive, bookworm, and career-driven, and you will know how those personality traits will affect you should you decide to date the person. When/if you decide to marry, the values will be doubled, for better or for worse.

From time to time, you will be presented with the opportunity to boost your work income for a year by watching ads, get two years younger by watching ads, or double what you earned (for being inactive) by watching ads. My understanding is that you can watch up to 25 ads per day for various bonuses, but you can also decline when asked, to save your ad for a better bonus. I have found that after watching the ad, I have to disable VoiceOver, touch the top portion of the screen for a bit, and I usually will be able to then see (once re-enabling VoiceOver) the thank-you message confirming I've watched the ad and letting me know my award.

The game has in-app purchases to allow you to unlock sandbox mode. One thing that I have noticed when using this mode is that the gender/sexuality are not read properly. I believe the defaults are male and straight, but if you double tap, it will switch to female and gay, respectively, but if you double tap again, it doesn't seem to switch back, or if it does, it doesn't read properly. Therefore, if you do decide to use Sandbox mode for a custom game, you will need to know what you'd like to be before you switch the gender/sexuality. Other values such as starting money are activated via sliders and work fine, as well as enabling or disabling perks. Traits (randomly one good and one bad aspect) seem to be randomly assigned. Perks (all good), are unlockable via in-app purchases and special additional perks earned via specific in-game achievements are also unlockable.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads most page elements.

Button Labeling

Most buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some minor accessibility issues with this app, but they are easy to deal with.

Other Comments

This game is a turn-based life simulation game. For simplicity's sake, you play out January-December each year and each month is made up of four weeks or turns, and each action is going to take up a week, except for when making withdrawals/deposits from the bank and purchasing items like cars, real estate, etc. You can lead a life of crime, play the stock market, become a family man, win the World Series, and eradicate disease, among other ambitious (or nefarious) goals. I have only played this game once because the game will award you with different goodies each time, one of which is a youth elixir (+100 health and -10 years off your age) for playing daily, so I was able to extend my life out quite a bit. I also ended up making enough money to buy my own youth elixirs (they go up in price starting from 20,000,000 dollars and doubling with each subsequent purchase), making for a long and illustrious life.

There are many different achievements you can aim for, so it does offer some replay value if you like trying out different strategies. However, there isn't much of a story to it in the sense that random events are mainly things which will add or subtract money, health, and happiness. There are instances where you're able to make selections, such as when you go camping and encounter a bear, and from what I have learned, it usually means that 2/3 of the choices will lead to undesirable outcomes so you will need to try and pick the best option.

If you want to improve your life, you will need to rely on the Education and Work sections, as Education is where you can go to school but also learn skills such as street-smarts for decreasing the likelihood of getting caught when committing crimes, home chef to unlock better diet options, etc, and Work is also where you will go for side hustles, crime, and starting a business. You will need to manually work and use a turn to earn money, unless you have money in the bank, are a landlord, playing the stock market, or have other forms of passive income, in which case, you will be earning residual income.

This is a lot to digest so please feel free to ask any questions, and I will do my best to answer them as soon as possible.

Regarding the restaurant/real estate, etc., businesses, those are not considered real 'jobs', per se. They are side income. So you can't use the regular Work/Overtime buttons. You can keep a regular job whiley ou own the restaurant.

I had to do this with my Uber driver and kept his actual career as "Uber Driver" even when I didn't have to work, as if I didn't I wouldn't get the money you get when you are away form the game and come back.

Similar with being an Author/DJ/Youtube Star, etc. - once you start on a project (movie/book/track/video), the Work/Overtime buttons will activate and you can use those to advance the project ... but you don't get monthly money unless you actually have revenue from former projects (I got up to 20k a week eventually after I had managed to make many many Youtube videos, for example, and got up to the max experience.)

By DMNagel on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

When happiness is low, you go on vacation. You can use anything under the vacation tab. When health is low, you must go to the health tab and use anything except meditation. Meditation is only for sanity.

By Ornella on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

No wonder why I died so quick. I meditated so much it killed me. Lol. But I also took pills so that may be part of it.

By Sabrina on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Just died as a crazy cat lady because I was completely broke and my health went down to 0 I guess. I think I did it twice. And I was broke and had NO education in this life so basically I was stuck with the pan handler job.

By Ornella on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

I didn't do that one yet my job was the burger flipper but I started to lose a lot of money when I turned on all my subscriptions like jim membership and internet services and some other things. And I turned on where the bank pays for everything instead of me having to do it manually so that probably was part of me losing money and becoming bankrupt.

By Sabrina on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Okay, now have stuff to become dj and youtube star. How do I do that? It just says level newbie and then 0.00 something. Sometimes it says resume project.E

By Sabrina on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

I know how to do. I currently have one track and two videos and all are terrible but I think they will get better.

By Kristen on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

In reply to by Sabrina

Yeah, I did Youtube Star before. You have to get to like 60 videos before you get to be able to do "Pro" level videos. (There are 3 levels of video projects you can start, the first one you start with is "Simple", I think.)

You really have to just keep churning out videos until you get lucky and get enough average quality and above ones that will give you enough money. Even wiht the "pro" quality, I only was lucky enough to get a viral video (which pays like $1000+ a week) a few times.

By Sabrina on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

I am broke again. blah. Okay, I can finally be a dj , I cannot do crimes because I get caught all the time. Sory for my poor typing but I am in a very bouncing car.ork a lot but now my character is in debt and when I work it bbe siims

By Sabrina on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

This is so clean and there is not a lot of story so you can do things. I have trouble with the cat lady. Broke, blah. Don't like. But this will always stay on my phone together with the oter two games.

By Sabrina on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Wich of Bit Life, Alter Ego or BitLife do you think has more content?E

By DMNagel on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Sadly I don't think I'll be able to get it. The philanthropy projects seems to be a bit crazy.

By Sabrina on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

I have made 9 tracks but how in the world do I increase skill? It still says newbie. Broke again. Blah.

By Sabrina on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Now I am a DJ with sixty tracks. I am not broke any more but am saving up for an elixir of youth but I have a long way to go.
I am not doing any of my jobs because I am focusing on making more tracks, apps, movies and books.
The problem is I am getting old wich I realize because I have a lot of health warnings. So this is why I need the elixir. Think I will buy some stocks.

By Ornella on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Did anyone buy sandbox feature? I know it says you could customize cash and some other things. I know that might be cheating but I don't know if I should buy it or if its worth anything really.

By Kristen on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

I bought the upgrade that was like $13 CAD and incldued Sandbox mode, all the perks available and "future updates", whatever that meant. I've yet to try the Sandbox mode, but will maybe try it out once I've finished getting some of the achievements. (That was the one thing that gave me pause in doing a Sandbox game - I couldn't try to unlock some of the achievements to get more perks.)

By DMNagel on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Yes it is cheating, but you can actually start at 8 years and get a head-start on things. Good for playing around. I also got the master purchase.

By Ornella on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Ok. I'm not sure what I want to do since I'm always so unsuccessful. I mean like when I tap on the work button a few times I get a pop up saying I'm depressed and end up dieing. Wonder if I press the work and either the over night or over time button if a day passes or a week. Still trying to figure out that because when I tap on the work button I press all nighter a few times well and then I press over time. Lol.

By DMNagel on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

They kill quickly lol. You will work harder and pay more, but your health will deteriorate 3 times faster. Better to just work normally. When you live in a luxurious house, eat the best diet and own all Subscriptions, you can do all nighters.

By DMNagel on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

All nighter and overtime is just harder shifts with more hours.

By Ornella on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

I will try that. And when I turn on my subscriptions I lose money faster.

By DMNagel on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

You can keep millions in the bank and let your interests pay for your subscriptions.

By Ornella on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

I guess I will just buy the sandbox mode then. I don't mind collecting perks daily.

By DMNagel on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

This is very important. Not only will it allow you to get daily rewards, but you also unlock other scenarios. I of course used time altering in order to cheat my way through and by doing this, I have unlocked all scenarios. I have reason to believe that I am now banned from the leaderboard, because I am no longer allowed to watch any ads, but that does not bother me. All I ever want is to mind my own business and get things as fast as possible. If you care about the leaderboard, don't do what I do lol.

By Kristen on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

To be honest, it took me a while to figure out the best approach to stop from getting the "depressed" popups evrey so often.

I think I start out tapping the "Work" or "Ovetime" icon twice, then switching to the "Vacation" or "Love" tab to do a few leisure things to keep the person sane/happy and then back to work/overtime. You need to be aware of how much money you can make with each press fo the Work/Overtime button, plus how much you lose via expenses every week (yoiu can see this at the bottom of the "Bank" tab.)

I don't do Subscriptions until I know I can afford it. Basically the Subscriptions, i believe, are just a steady weekly + to your Happiness or Sanity ... but if you have to work so much to pay for them that the work strses makes you lose more happiness than the subscription gains you, then they are not worth it.

Hardest part is in the beginning when you are trying to go to college. You kind of have to do a couple taps of "Overtime", go to Education and do aacouple taps (or maybe only 1) of the degree, then do a leisure activity, then back to working.

Right now my person is a CEO and is making the big bucks when she does "Overtime" (but this job apparently has extra sanity drains - there is like a -3 after the name of the job.) Her husband provided a +1 for being a Bookworm (wasn't sure if that was a + to Sanity or Happiness, but it helped) Right now she has enough money that I can do 2-3 taps of her actual work, then go do a Vacation, a romantic dinner with her husband (she is on husband #2 as of this point since the first one died ...), play with her kids (which does provide some happiness and sanity, which is what I think actually helped her get through all of the working) and then back to working. I'm trying to get the Real Estate and Restaurant businesses off the ground right now.

I'm taking a break from the game right now and only being sure to check in daily so I can get the money while away - I am waiting for a free Youth Elixir since my person is now age 55 and it would be helpful if she dropped down to age 45 so her health doesn't drop so fast.

By Tiffany J. Kim on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Okay, there are going to be some spoilers here, so if you like to figure things out for yourself, stop reading from this point!

I'm sorry I have been silent because I was literally trying to get the angelic perk and haven't been on the computer as a result. This is how I managed it. First, I learned how to play the stock market from an early age so that I could buy a bunch of shares at $150 or so apiece. As time progresses (and you will likely need a lot of it via youth elixirs), I ended up accumulating about 400K shares or so. I held onto the stock as long as I could, regardless of how high it climbed. I invested in real estate such as apartment complexes and skyscrapers as well, since early on, they are your best sources of income. However, you are eventually going to need to get a Level 12 business, which certainly wasn't obvious to me early on as they seemed to require a bunch of money for a return that seemed disproportionately small to what you have to pay.

I was far too ambitious because my strategy was to attempt to start all businesses and get them all to Level 12. My advice is that if you want to just focus on one business, real estate company may be the best bet because it seems to be the most profitable in relation to what you get, but once you hit Level 12, it really doesn't matter a whole lot. Once your stock is worth many trillions of dollars, (I'd recommend 50-100), you can sell some stock to perform the upgrade to level 12, at which point you can funnel an unlimited amount of money for an infinite number of employees/contracts/restaurants/etc, so your business becomes a money machine. Stock becomes a moot point at this juncture and your resources need to get funneled into your business so you can get your wealth to a point where you're making so much money that eventually, you're pulling in more than an octillion at each turn or you've saved up enough to colonize Mars, which is going to cost you 100Oct in total. Each time you fund a philanthropic project, you also use one week so keep that in mind since it's not like purchasing property or stock.

Once you unlock the angelic perk, you end up with 4 traits in total, all of which are positive, so no more clumsiness, quick-temperedness, etc! That means you will be able to unlock six positive traits in all, after learning self-help and self-improvement. In my quest to unlock this perk, I ended up unlocking all of the others as the game apparently allows you to unlock multiple perks in a playthrough, so here is a list of the unlockable perks, using the game's descriptions.

Frugal Traveler: -25% travel costs
Good Health: Get sick less frequently and healthier at an older age
Excitable: Leisure activities provide more happiness
Good parenting: +2 relationship bonus for child support
Natural Genius: Start out with a random college degree
Angelic: Start out with additional positive traits and no negative traits

By DMNagel on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Don't think I have the head for it, so I guess I'll just have to do without. I managed to get to 100 years, got back to 8 and almost worked my way up to 100 again before giving up.

By Ornella on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

I bought the sandbox mode and so far working out good. I was going to buy everything like the bundle but I was low on credit so that's what I settled for. My restaurant is on level 2 I think. Its a pizza house but my revenue isn't a lot. I will keep playing and see what happens. I bought the luxary car so earning from oober.

By Ornella on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Has anyone tried the lottery? I bought 10 tickets and won a small price of $100. Lol. I don't think they showed the jackpot prize though. I will play a few times and see if I'm lucky.

By Tiffany J. Kim on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

I have tried the lottery about twenty times over my various lives but have yet to win anything beyond the small prize. :(

By amro on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Hello there, when I try to customize my game, double tapping on the gender it won't change, it says random then female, but no male genders?

By DMNagel on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Find gender with your finger, turn off voice-over and then tap on the left side of the screen.

By Ornella on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Doing good so far. I bought a million dollar apartment for my self and I bought a few apartments to rent out. My grand estate is bringing in more money. I want the space hotel. Lol. My question is is that income per month or weekly? And another question is when I'm trying to get the home shef its locked. I want to change my diet from burgers. My income as a driver is giving me 750 and sometimes I get extra high tips.

By DMNagel on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Incomes are weekly. To unlock better diets, you will need to go to the education tab and learn the home chef skill.

By Ornella on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

That's cool. I did some shoplifting and spent a month in jail. Lol. I smoked cigarettes to pass the time. This game is fun.

By Ornella on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

I learned all the street smarts so crime is easy for me now. I can't do home theft or the bigger crimes yet but drug dealing is giving me some fast money. Shoplifting is good to but its luck or chance if you get really good items. I got an $800 tablet and some candy bars. A question about stocks. I'm not sure how it works. I saw that it went up to 77 percent and I sold it but didn't get plenty money for it.

By DMNagel on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Not sure either.

By dezzi on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

In reply to by DMNagel

I am lousy when it comes to the stocks. However, I think it is due to the fact that I do not understand the stock market in real life. So I think, you need a basic understanding of how the stock market actually works.

By Tiffany J. Kim on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Hi, with regards to the stock market, when you start the game, shares go for $100-150. My approach has been to buy as much stock as I can afford after unlocking the Personal Finance skill, even better if the weekly report shows that the stock is down that week, which will be indicated by -1.5 (it will show the minus symbol so VO should read that out), for example. That will show under the option to buy stock. It should give you the weekly change and the current price per share. If I need to sell stock, I will aim to sell it high, preferably after it has had many years to increase exponentially in value. You should be able to see how much your stock portfolio is worth under the sell buttons. I believe it will also show the total number of shares you have. It works similarly to the bank in that you will be able to sell or buy 10/25/100% of your portfolio's value, and you will not use any weeks when performing your transactions, so if you have the patience and determination, you can sell a more precise percentage of your portfolio.

As a simple example of the stock market, if you buy 1,000 shares at $100 apiece, you've spent $100,000 on stock. If it increases to $10,000 a share (and eventually it will), your portfolio will now be worth $10,000,000, but it does take some patience. The way I like to look at this is that the bank is for money you want or need now. The stock market is where you keep money that you might not need for a long time, i.e. saving for retirement or upgrading your business to level 12. I hope that helps.

By Ornella on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

In real life I don't know the stock market so generally I won't know what to do but thanks for the tips. Right now I won't say I'm bored but I'm doing plenty crimes. Got caught a few times but I will play and see how it goes.

By Ornella on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

So have been doing this for a few hours now an to be able to commit bank robbery you need to do a lot of shop lifting and drug dealing which would give you much more success with other crimes. You would still get caught but not all the time. Home theft gives lots of money depending on the value of the items. The most I got from that was $4000. With bank robbery the most I got was 100000 k. So if you need some fast money you know what to do. Lol. On the normal side of things I bought the apartment complex so my income is much more higher now. I bought the youth alixear for 20 million but now its doubled to 40 million. Nott sure if I will buy it again or just wait for the reward.

By Kristen on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Trying for the "get all business to level 12" life goal and currently have most of them to level 5. The farm, for whatever reason, is slower to start up and slower to grow.

Cash is pouring in, though, so it was easy to get enough money to get the youth elixir a couple times. I also bought several luxury condos to rent out.

Though now my person is 37 years old and her 2nd husband is like 75. Haha. She's younger than a couple of her kids.

I've gotten into a rhythm, though, for building up the money now that all the income is pouring in per week. Couple taps on Overtime work, International vacation, Play/Romantic dinner with husband and then a family vacation (only if the children's relationship is around 900/1000). Then to the bank and deposit all and start again. As the money builds up in the bank, I get more interest per week and then it snowballs into even more income until I have enough money to upgrade one of my businesses to the next level. Then I buy more contracts/employees/restaurants, etc., which ups the income on that to the max ... and then back to building up more money.

I'm reminded of a clicker game in some ways (the ones where you have to get certain goals to restart and get a perk to start the next game.)

I've alraedy gotten the "Big Family (8+ kids to adulthood)" life goal and some goal involved in wealth (I think to do with personal net worth.) I am not sure what those life goals will do for me when I start a new life, though.

By Ornella on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Wow I will try it that way. I wanted to have a few business at once but now I have to start all over again because I died in my 50's doing so much jail time. Lol

By DMNagel on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

In front of her eyes, i turned into an 8 year old kid. What a nightmare for her. Also, my kids were out of the house.

By Ornella on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Since I sarted to slow it down on the crimes my life is ok. I have two kids 1 year apart and I'm married. My husband is 2 years older than me. He's a party animal. We get along good so far. I have a real estate business and still renting out apartments. I work as a legal assistant. I think that pays $1000 plus if I'm not mistaken.

By Tiffany J. Kim on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

I've been experimenting with the stock market and it seems as though you must actually learn Investment Strategies for it to really climb in value as described above. I am currently a major in the military and I decided not to learn Investment Strategies this time around to see how things went. It's been about 28 years and stock is still valued at $127 a share for me. I'm not sure if that's intended or a bug, but you could theoretically buy a bunch of stock over time, then learn to invest strategically, and become wealthy in your golden years. Obviously, that won't really allow you time to build up a business empire without relying on youth elixirs, but I thought I'd try a "normal" life this time around without any time altering so I'll have to win or die before the Youth Elixir daily reward. Next time, I'm going to try to live a life of crime and see how I fare there. I have avoided that because I don't like the idea of disappointing my parents, LOL, but I guess that I can always be an orphan.

Edit: It will take about 36 years but then the stock market should start climbing. I'm now 44 years into the game and stock is now valued at $568 a share. Maybe they've incorporated some inflation into the game? Hmmm.

By Ornella on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Crime is fun. Lol. Once you do plenty shop lifting you will see the status go up like 85 percent chance success. 0 of 120. something like that. Then you will be able to do drug dealing and other things.

By Tiffany J. Kim on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

Drug dealing actually sounds the most fun to me. I used to play Jim Kitchen's Star Mule and Dope Wars from way back when, and it was always fun to go to different locales to see how the prices of drugs fluctuated. I hope that the game will let me know what I dealt and how much I made from it. That would definitely keep things interesting.

By Sabrina on Sunday, June 23, 2019 - 17:20

How do I see life goals or badges and how do I know wich are finished?
