A few minutes of glory

Category

Description of App

Are you tired of casual "real-time strategy" games where whoever has the most money wins? Do you wish you could play *a certain classic medieval RTS* on your mobile device?

A Few Minutes of Glory is a quick, text-based, yet still challenging distillation of THAT game, to satisfy your RTS craving on the go.

Wait, how could someone possibly make a text-based RTS? By focusing on strategy rather than tactics. You decide what resources to gather, what units to build, and when to attack; and the small details of battle are simulated automatically.

Create your own civilization with a unique army composition, and try to survive a campaign against 10 enemy civilizations. Every time you win a match, choose a new power to change the course of battle. No two civilizations will be the same!

Features:

-15 military units including swordsmen, horse archers, knights, catapults, and monks
-Food, wood, gold, and stone, each with a different strategic purpose
-Aggressive and defensive strategies, and everything in between
-Action-packed matches lasting only 4 minutes
-Roguelike progression: try to survive 10 matches, and upgrade your civilization after each win
-4 levels of AI difficulty
-The AI never cheats, yet the developer still can't beat the hardest AI
-VoiceOver accessibility
-Pay once to own the entire game, forever
-The app icon will never include an angry shouting face

A Few Minutes of Glory is a solo passion project by the developer of Nano Empire and Friends of the Prince. Due to limited resources, this is only a single-player experience, for now...

Accessibility Comments

The game is fully accessible with voiceover. Thanks to the extra slow option, even though the game is real time, you should have ample time to view the screen and make decisions about your strategy, Also, I'm pleased to say that the miner bug in the campaign screen is now fixed, so its easy to view your military units various strengths and weaknesses and what powers you have by just flicking away. Anyone who was sketchy on trying this earlier due to possible access issues should give it a second look.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

All buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver and is easy to navigate and use.

Other Comments

this is an amazingly addictive, quick and strategical playing on the tutorial or easy Ai with the extra slow speed should be enough to learn the game, though of being a master and defeating the Ai on some of the harder difficulties will take time and tactics.

if you enjoy having to make quick decisions on the fly, handle resources fast, and games where you need to make the most of what you have, you should enjoy this game.

perfect for arm chair generals and strategy nuts everywhere.

This game sounds cool. Ilove Nano Empire and will definittely give this a try once I have gotten my gift card later today.
I love the way it seems because I love RTS and look forward to seeing a text based one.

I am very confused here. I am not sure what I am supposed to do. This looks good though, if I ever find out how it works.

Okay I'll try and hopefully help with confusion.
The goal of the game is to build military units and win battles against your enemy.
each unit takes resources to build, such as stone for towers and walls, and wood, food and gold to build military units like archers and catapults.

at the top of the screen are the amounts of food, wood, gold and stone you have and buildings that produce. them. Each building has a number next to it which tells you how many of that type you have, for example if you see "farm" and then swipe past to see a button with "1" you know you have one farm producing one food per second.
If the buttons are dimmed, you can't build.

Under the buildings, if you carry on swiping are your different military units including the name, cost, and two buttons which like the building buttons are labeled with the number of that unit you have. The first button builds a unit and assigns it to attack, the second assigns to defence. So if you see "militia 15 F 1, 0" you know you know that building the militia costs 15 food each, and that you currently have one on attack and none on defence.

You get five different random sorts of military unit each game, each with different strengths and weaknesses and different costs.

Towards the bottom is the attack button, which sometimes has a timer next to it, for example "attack 20" which indicates when you can next launch an attack, that will pit all your attacking units against the enemy's defensive ones.
Under that towards the bottom are your defensive structures, first walls, then archery towers, though since you can't obviously use these to attack, there is only one build button for these.
At the very bottom are status messages.

The object of the game is to win battles against your enemy. At any time the enemy may attack you and pit all their attacking units against whatever units you have defence plus your walls and towers, whilst hitting attack as I said does the opposite.

Each attack you win you get two glory, plus get to loot some resources from your enemy, whilst winning a defensive action gets you one glory and no resources.
The object is either to be the first to ten glory, or, after four minutes are up to win the final battle.

In a final battle, all of your units will attack the enemy or all of their units will attack you (the one with the lowest amount of glory always attacks).

Strategy comes, firstly in managing your resources to produce units efficiently, and secondly in making sure take advantage of your enemy's unit choices since some military units are stronger/weaker against others.

The game is real time, meaning you need to be fairly quick with swipes, but just as long as you remember a dimmed button means you don't have the resources to build that thing, and make sure to touch the right part of the screen (top for resources, middle for military units, bottom for defensive structures), you should be okay, though the developers has also mentioned adding in a super slow mode too which would be a good thing.

hth.

Okay for anyone who has been hesitating to try this there has been a really handy new update to the game which both fixes the issues of the slightly confused campaign screen which I mentioned, and also add an extra slow speed which gives you far more time for deliberation whilst keeping up the real time pressure.

I'd say the game is fully accessible now.

how much does it cost?

By dark on Thursday, February 21, 2019 - 12:30

The game costs three American dollars, or ÂŁ2.50 in the Uk.

Imho more than worth it.

Has anyone beat the insane difficulty yet?

By Joel on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 - 12:30

If people want, I can write a guide with strategies on how to beat the game on every difficulty level.

I finally beat the insane difficulty level.

Here’s my App Store review (4 stars):
“ I have a screenshot as evidence despite the disappointing lack of Game Center integration. Also, exploring the screen by moving around the finger instead of flicking, doesn’t work well. It’s harder to go back from an info screen than beating this AI thing :) Also, the unit types should’ve been under their own headings in the army reference screen for more convenient rotor navigation. There might be more issues I have encountered that I can’t recall right now, but I just want to enjoy my victory and and sleep peacefully :) Oh, online battles would be fantastic, though at a slower speed due to possible delays or connection issues.”
* I meant “screen recording” there.
