Accessibility Comments

There are a few quirks to get used to, though this is fully accessible (I am assuming by accident - I am not sure!)

- Moves are read out automatically (IE "Computer plays Ace of Spades", "Partner plays King of Spades", etc.)
- Also reads out automatically who is the dealer when a new hand starts.
- Also notifies you/reads out whether each player passes or orders a player up (IE "Computer passes" or "Partner says pick it up")
- It also notifies you when it is your turn by simply saying "Your turn"
- It notifies other things, too, such as when you or the other team gains a point/points, if someone "goes alone" and the current # of tricks the team has.
- If you swipe left/right, you can remind yourself which suit is trump and what cards have been played (the cards that have been played are nearer to the top.)
- Your own cards are listed at the very bottom when you swipe all the way right. They are not noted as buttons, but are tappable.
- If you do a two finger swipe up to get to the top of the screen, it will list the current scores (the 2 teams are 'Red' and 'Black' - I find your team is usually 'Black'.

Some of the quirks:
- Sometimes the buttons to Pass/Order Trump or to choose trump do not seem to show up right away when you swipe left/right. I find if you lift your finger away from the screen and touch somewhere in the middle of the screen and then swipe left/right it will find them (I am assuming this is a popup or something that VO needs to try to focus on.) Usually with a few seconds I can find it.
As a note:
- Pass/Order Trump show up as buttons, though they have plain text labels next to them - ensure to tap on the button ones.
- The list of suits to set as trump show up as something like "Make Hearts Trump", etc., though it seems to run together with the name of the players. Just look for buttons that say "Make <suit name here>" in the name and tap on them.
- I can't seem to figure out how to properly exit the game after ending play or disconnecting an online play. I noted if I double tapped on the message that said "You get 2 points for winning" after an online/multi-player game, it popped up an option to Disconnect. Still figuring this out.
- There are a lot of random labels that say "Pass" or "+2" or "+1" - I am assuming these are listings of what each player did last, though the order is wrong for VO. I find it easy to ignore them, though since the pertinent information is read out automatically by VO.

Otherwise, it's fairly easy to figure things out. Hoping to maybe contact the developer regarding the oddities, as with a few tweaks this would be extremely accessible!

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads most page elements.

Button Labeling

All buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some minor accessibility issues with this app, but they are easy to deal with.

Other Comments

Again - this is very useable and the minor issues are easy to work around. Hopnig to contact the developer to get the things fixed, if possible! I've been looking for an accessible Euchre game for a long time.

I have never played Euchre before. Does this app feature a tutorial or help available within the app to help new users learn to play?

Hi,

There is no Tutorial that I can find, though there is a "How to Play" section that lists the rules and strategies.

I imagine there are more in-depth lists of rules online. The trick is to get your head wrapped around the concept of a "trump suit" - whatever suit is trump, if played in a trick, will "trump" all the others even if it is a 9 of the trump suit and the highest card of the other suit is an Ace. Also the concept of "bowers" - when trump is chosen, say to Hearts for this example, the Jack of Hearts becomes the "right bower", which is the highest card in the game for trump, and the Jack of Diamonds (the other suit of the same color as trump) is the "left bower", which is only below the right bower in terms of power.

Basically there are 5 cards you get and 5 tricks possible in each hand - if your team takes at least 3 of the 5 tricks, you get a point. If the other players called trump and you win with 3+ tricks, you get 2 points.

When the game first starts, the dealer turns up a card - say the 9 of Diamonds. The Pass/Order Trump options are whether you think you have a good enough hand to make that particular suit trump. If yu are the dealer and someone else "Orders you up" you have to pick that card up and discard another in your hand. If everone passes that card that was turned up, then it goes through all the players to see if anyone wants to declare trump. (You can "Pass" or "Make trump" whatever suit you think you have the best cards for.) When you make/order trump, it will ask if youw ant to "Go Alone" or "Partnered". Always choose Partnered unless you have a really really good hand (both bowers, for example, and high valued off-trump cards.) Going alone means your partner sits out and you have to do it alone. If you win, though, you get 4 points, I believe.

This game has a "Single Player" mode you can practice with until you're better at it, too, though I've yet to have a real player stay for the entire 10-point game in the multi-player mode. It is not a game you can do a turn and then wander away - it expects you to actively be playing the card game, I believe.

Oh, also:
When the trump suit is chosen, it re-orders your cards so that the trump is at the bottom (swiping all the way right) with the highest valued trump cards at the very bottom. So if you had the right/left bower, it'd show there. It is helpful to remember which suit is trump on the fly and to see whether you have any of that trump left.

This is also a "partner" game - you are playing with a partner. So there are strategies involving your partner too - IE do not trump your partner's Ace (IE, if it looks like your partner is going to win a hnd/trick without the use of trump, save the trump card for a different trick.)

If anyone can find the email for this developer, I'd appreciate it - I tried clicking on "Euchre Online Support" in the app store link, though the resulting page it goes to does not seem to list any email or contact info.

I saw references to users having emailed the devs in the comments on game, though, so there must be some way to do it (unless it was removed recently.)
