Blindfold Wildcard

Category

Description of App

Blindfold Wildcard is a fully accessible card game that is a variant of the game "UNO" for both sighted and visually impaired people, designed for rapid audio play.

Blindfold Wildcard includes several modes of play, such as discard or draw, and discard or draw until you can discard. Since there are many rules choices for the game, you can customize it for many of those rules. You play against the computer.

The cards are not visible; instead, you play by listening. You can flick up or down to hear the cards, and tap to play a card or draw from the deck. A complete guide to the gestures is included in the help.

Blindfold Wildcard tells you if a card can be played. You can customize the game to your liking: how much extra information is spoken and how quickly it is spoken.

Blindfold Wildcard was suggested by several blind gamers who enjoyed Blindfold Racer and Blindfold Crazy Eights.

There is a STARTER PACK in-app upgrade that unlocks all settings features, and gives you up to three opponents and three levels of difficulty.

is it possible to add additional rules to the game?I was thinking additional rolls like stackable where you can stack draw two or draw for cars in turn, or the interceptor all whereby if you have the card that his face app you can play it to intercept gameplay even though it is not your turn. There is also a challenge roll whereby if you changecard colors you can be challenged if you have one of the colors raining then you have to draw six cards.

I love to see these card games finally accessible. However from the first days of the iPhone I've wanted an accessible Euchre and Cribbage game. I really wish Kid Friendly would release these. I'd gladly pay for them. I have purchased several versions of both games and not one is accessible. So come on Kid Friendly Euchre and Cribbage PLEASE!

Hi.

I would like to make some suggestions for all these blindfold games. First of all, can you either add an option to play with or without the high pitched voice? The high pitched voice sounds really weird. If possible, I would just like to play at the default voice pitch. Secondly, can you add an option to use the other voices besides Daniel and Samantha, other vices like Karen or something like that. I don't think this is possible, but does the iOS SDK allow you to use Alex as a system speech voice in apps? I don't think so, but I would prefer to use Alex as it is a higher quality voice than the Nuance ones.

Aside from these voice comments, the game is great!

I'd bought another game like this game years ago but it never worked with VoiceOver. Now finally I have an accessible version with this game. Please keep updating it so it continues to work with VO. If you like the free version pay the few bucks to help the developer and unlock more items that will make the game more like playing with multiple people instead.

Has anyone else noticed that the computer opponents in the game always play their cards in a certain order? Let's say for example that the computer has Draw two red, Skip red, reverse red, 5 red, 2 red and 0 red. It will always play Draw two first, then Skip, then Reverse, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5 etc.. The only time it will play a card out of it's color order is if it is changing colors, but this again only happens (switching colors) if it is out of the current color in play. It makes it very easy to predict if an opponent is close to or is out of a certain color. It also makes it easier to predict when it's best to change the current color, as well as making it difficult for an opponent to change the current color back to one he wasn't done clearing out by dumping all your low numbered cards beforehand, as they most likely will not have any higher cards because they already played them earlier. So while it seems logical to dump your higher cards first, it is actually best to play the lower numbers first unless it looks like you may lose the match in the next few rounds.

I've gone to playing against 3 opponents on hard because it makes it harder to predict when a player is out of a certain color, but even with 3 opponents it can become easy to predict patterns.

I'm going to contact the developers as I don't know how often they roam this site, but honestly don't know if they will be able to change the AI.

I downloaded blindfold wildcard and when I try to buy the in app purchase it says unable to restore purchase. I've checked w/the app store and there's no problem w/my account. I've also emailed the developer with no response and I deleted and redownloaded the app. Any suggestions? When you click on "buy starter pack" I get a "buy now" and a restore purchase. I've tried both options with the same result. The app store thinks there's a bug in the program. Anyone else had such an experience? If so, what did you do?

Try it again today and let me know if it happens again.

We're working on SPADES and HEARTS, then we will get to some other games like euchre.

I'm using a fairly straightforward algorithm for the other players, often used by other UNO robot games.
Its rather difficult to put in very high intelligence into these games, since I would rather spend the time making more games, and making the existing games multi-user where you can invite friends to play. I tend to first build the game using a common strategy and then move it to multi-player. At this point, I think I have all of the multi-player problems solved in the next version of Crazy eights, then I can go back and add that feature to many of the games.

As I mentioned on other forums for the blindfold games, Apple does not give apps the ability to select one of the enhanced voices you might have already loaded on your phone. For english, we have a choice of female american voice, male british voice, and some awful sounding irish and australian voices.

I'm still having an issue where I can't get Continuous Draw mode to work. Is everyone else having this issue, or do I need to uninstall, reinstall, and restore purchase.

By alex wallis on Thursday, April 23, 2015 - 20:58

Personally I would like the choice of any of the voices apple makes available just simply for choices sake, actually I would probably choose to use the british English male voice in all games if I could.

I figure there's *got* to be a way to allow VoiceOver to read the actual game screens, as apps like Dice World, and Premium Blackjack use VoiceOver for reading out what happens in the game. I just think it would be nice to have the choice of being able to rely completely on VoiceOver instead of having to use other tts voices instead. I know this is a subjective thing though. Plenty of apps rely completely on VoiceOver, so there absolutely has got to be a way to achieve this. Sadly, I'm not a programmer so I can't tell anyone here what's needed.

Hi, I tried it again and same result. I chose "buy it now" or "restore purchases" and got the same msg. It says "authorizing, please wait." and nothing happens. Then it says "problem in storing purchases." Please help!!!

I understand what you're saying, but that's just the way you play the game, you play your hight cards first so that you don't get caught w/high cards in your hand. Everybody's constantly drawing new cards so you may not really know what they have.

i love blindfold wildcard and its groovy:) i had fun as a tester for it to:)

By KidFriendlySoftware on Thursday, April 23, 2015 - 20:58

There are ways to get voice-over to read things, but when I experimented with it a while ago, it really messed up the natural flow of the game. And from a programming viewpoint, using voice-over is less reliable that using the text-to-voice.

Hi, I love this game when I had my site, so naturally I was thrilled to see inaccessible version of the game on the App Store. I love the game, however I would love to play it with a friend. It would be nice to see multiplayer support added for A more challenging and fun experience with your friends. Keep up the great work and I look forward to future updates.

Hi! Having played accessible versions of Uno on the PC, I was very pleased to be able to play Blindfold Wildcard, as it is so similar to Uno. Fun as it is playing against computer opponents, I agree with one of the previous commenters that it would be nice to be able to play Blindfold Wildcard against other humans in future. I noticed that Blindfold Wildcard doesn't have the option of saying "Uno" when you have one card left, as other Uno games I've played have had, but that would probably mean another gesture so we don't actually have to speak the word into our microphones, and to be honest I'm not sure what it really adds to the Uno game anyway. As regards ideas for other games, there is already an accessible Cribbage game in the App Store called Cribbage Pro which uses VoiceOver, but I still would be pleased to see Blindfold Cribbage among this range of games if that can ever happen.

I for sure agree with Jeremy. I was hoping someone would comment on the subject because if not I was gonna start a new topic. Either make it so that you can multiplay with someone online, through bluetooth, or by selecting an option where when selecting how many opponents would play in the game, you could tell it whether or not you wanted to play against the computer or actual players. You should also be able to set a rule where you have to draw cards until you could play.

Hi! :)

I love this game. It provides entertainment for me when I'm alone as well as when I'm playing with friends. I just noticed some very minor things about the game performance when in multi-player mode that I'd like to list here:

1. The app tends to crash in the middle of a game at times when I'm playing with a friend through game center. I haven't been able to test it with more than one friend, as I've never been able to find any random players through automatch when I've wanted to test it. I only have one friend who has the app so far. It's fine in solo player mode. Maybe it's his phone and not mine. I don't know.

2. The sound tends to come out of the phone's microphone when a game commences in multi-player mode. I have to press home to summon Siri and then quit Siri for it to resume playing out of the speaker. Again, this doesn't happen in solo player mode.

Thanks for considering my input. This is a great app. Thanks so much for all your games! I love the ones I've tried so far! :D

Hi. So I have installed blindfold wildcard with friends and I have managed to get a game going. The problem I am having is that I am not receiving notifications when it is my turn and yes, I have notifications switched on in both the game itself and the game Centre. Any help would be great Lee appreciated. Thanks in advance.

By KidFriendlySoftware on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 - 20:58

If you keep the game as the active app, are you told its your turn?
You can email me directly from the game in the settings screen.

Hi Marty, if I just sit in the app and wait for The other player to take their turn, then I am told. However, if I leave the app open and go about doing other things Elsewhere on my phone, I am not informed at all.

By KidFriendlySoftware on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 - 20:58

Please send an email from the game, so I can get some other information.
