Grubhub.com is a food delivery service that is available in many major U.S. cities. This app allows users to browse menus and place orders for food delivery. When online ordering isn't offered, the app allows users to call the restaurant to place an order. The app can use GPS to determine your current location and inform you what restaurants in your area are available for delivery through Grubhub.

Accessibility Comments

This app was extremely usable with VoiceOver. I was able to browse menus, create an account and place an order with no problems. Occasionally, their will be a button that VoiceOver doesn't identify as a button but just reads as plain text. My advice, double tap on things and see what happens. Some menus are posted only as images. Obviously, VO can not read these, but you can usually get much of the same information in the place order screen. A truly magnificent service and a very usable and accessible app! Happy dining!

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

Most buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver and is easy to navigate and use.

Other Comments

You can: use the app to review past orders and reorder the same thing, securely save credit card information, search for specific items, restaurants and cuisines right from the home screen.

The latest version of this app, v 2.60, seems to fix all of the unlabeled buttons found in previous versions! The app is even more usable and is fully accessible. The web site is usable with a screen reader, but I find the mobile app even easier than the site.

If you're using Grubhub now don't update!! In the new version, each restaurant is listed as "Search Result" and you can't see the name of the establishment til you click in.
Email helpme@grubhub.com if you feel so moved, to encourage them to make fixing this a priority.

Thank you very much for providing the email address. I have emailed them stating the same thing you have and hopefully will encourage them to take notice.

They responded that their tech team is aware and working on a fix. Much like a pizza on the way, I'll trust that it's coming but if it doesn't show up I'll speak up.

Yes, I sent them a Tweet about the issue earlier this morning and within ten minutes I received a reply tweet saying they apologize for the bug and will have it fixed soon. You gotta love responsive companies! I mean, replying to a tweet on a Saturday morning, very nice! Wish more companies worked like that!

I am happy to report that version 2.95, which was released on May 21, resolves the Voiceover issues with this app. It is once again possible to search for restaurants and view your results. The developer even mentioned fixing the Voiceover issue in the What's New section on the app store.
So, just in time for the long weekend, happy eating!

I am having trouble putting the address into the IOS APP. I am new to Grubhub, and I haven't ordered anything yet. Do I have to enter an address into the webpage, or do I have to make my first order from the webpage? If someone could please help me that would be great. Thanks!! :)

From my experience with using Grub Hub, searching for restaurants and going through the menus has been super easy. However, as far as placing an order, I've noticed the following accessability issues. VoiceOver doesn't tell you that things are selected, nor does it make the usual noise you'd here when you double tap on a button to let you know it's been chosen. For example, I tried to order from Subway, and when I got to the button that said "Choose a bread," I double tapped on it. But it acted like it didn't do anything to have me choose what kind of bread I wanted my sandwich to be on. Also, when you want to place your order, the button to do so isn't labeled, which is why I haven't been able to get it working. Has anyone else experienced these issues? Or if any of you know where the order button on the screen is specifically, could you please tell me where to find it? I appreciate what accessibility support has been made, but it'd be greatly appreciated for the developers to fix these issues to make it fully accessible.
