Accessibility Comments

This accessibility rating has been updated to reflect the version listed above. They have fixed the unlabeled buttons, and it appears most of the 1 time payment issues have been fixed with 2 exceptions. When filling out the amount with the touch screen, there appears to be no decimal point to seperate dollars from cents. However, when filled out with a bluetooth keyboard or braille display, you can enter the amount correctly. It also is not possible to select a payment to be delivered by, you can only use the earliest available date. Which if you're making a 1 time payment, may or may not be a big deal. All other parts of the 1 time payment feature appear to work as they should. I have contacted Bank of America with this feedback.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

All buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some minor accessibility issues with this app, but they are easy to deal with.

Other Comments

Still a great app, as long as you do not need to make one time BillPay payments via the touch screen.

I only took a brief tour of the accounts and account details but everything I did was completely accessible. The aforementioned issue with acount names is definitely fixed. Bank of America does take pains to make its online presence accessible. In the interest of full disclosure I do work for the bank, though not in this area of technology.

i'm sorry to report to everyone that the latest update to this app breaks accessibility for thoughs of us who use this app to pay our bills. not only are the buttons at the top not labeled, but when going in to the next screen to make a single payment, voiceover does nothing when doubletapping the make a single payment button. it just says selected make a single payment, and sits there. maybe we can contact them with all the members of this site we have and see if they can fix it.

I agree with the previous posters comments about the unlabeled buttons. However, I don't know that it would become a campaign of the month, though I'd certainly encourage all customers to report these issues to Bank of America.
i have called them several times, and have reported this on twitter and they are blowing me off and not listening to what i am telling them, and passing off what i have reported as quote technical problems.

After signing into this app the top left corner of the screen contains a sign out button. Directly below it is an unlabled button that will take you to BillPay. After getting VO to focus on it a two finger double tap will allow you to label it. One flick to the right is another unlabeled button. It is the Transfers button, One more flick to the right is the unlabeled Deposits button where you can start the process of taking a picture of a check you wish to deposit. If you double tap or split tap the BillPay button your options are: Make a single payment, Unpaid eBills, and outgoing payments. Split tapping on make a single payment takes you to a place where you can split tap pay to, or Pay from. These buttons are labeled.

I have found the one-time payment option is available if you select the unlabeled button for billpay, then select make a single payment.

A new version was released and I installed it on Sunday. It resolves the issues mentioned. For example, many of the unlabeled buttons have been labeled properly and take you to the corresponding pages. If possible, please go to the ap store and install the update. It seems to be working great now with many of the improvements needed for smooth voiceover use. It even states improved voiceover accessibility in the what's new section and specifically mentions fixing the unlabeled buttons.

HI all. I updated the comments and usability rating to reflect the current version. If someone can duplicate, or solve, the issue I'm having in the Bill Pay section, that would be great. Thanks!

I am glad they fixed the buttons, because i called them as recently about that as a month ago. the only issue i still see is the ability to pick a different date to pay bills is still broken. there is no sliders to select different dates.

You're right, you cannot set a specific date to send out a Bill Pay. The only thing you can do is deliver by the earliest available date for delivery.

has anyone ever successfully deposited a check through this app without sighted help? before i take the plunge, i'd like to know if this feature gives me convenience or headache. especially, if the image i take isn't good, will the transaction just gets canceled so i can do it other ways, such as going to an ATM; or do i have to go to a branch to straighten thing out? if you used this feature before, please tell your experience, thanks.

I have a little vision, but I couldn't make it work. Admittedly I only made one attempt, but the process is completely visual and there are no audible queues to help you line up the check. You have to fit it inside a box on screen and I figure I either didn't have it right in the box or I had it crooked. It may be doable if you have the patients but it won't be easy. If it doesn't work it doesn't work. Nothing goes through unless the scan is successful. Also I'm not convinced based on the message I got that the problem was my scan. Something on their end may have been broken.

I am considering switching to Bank of America, so I was just checking to make sure the app is accessible. I notice that the version of this App in the App Store is newer than the one described here, and the release notes state that the app has a new look. Of course, whenever an app is redesigned, there is always some risk of accessibility breaking. Before I open an account with them, can anyone comment on this new version? Thanks.

I don't use it a lot, but I was very impressed when I was able to sign in and deposit a check. Granted without the very little vision I have that would have been a bit more challenging, but I think with practice it could be done. I do rely on Voiceover for all the other interaction with the app and that worked flawlessly. I did suggest to them that if they wanted to make it perfect they should add Voiceover prompts to help know when the check is in focus.

By LaBoheme on Monday, August 25, 2014 - 17:56

although it does not prompt you to let you know the check is not in focus, it does describe the problem when you try to finish the transaction, such as the back of the check is not signed, the amount doesn't match (presumably the picture isn't good enough(, etc. it took me several tries, but i was able to complete the deposit successfully without seeing.

For those of you who use the Bank of America app on an iDevice which supports Touch ID, you may want to grab the latest update to the app. They have just added a feature I have wanted for a long time, the ability to login to your bank account using your fingerprint. If you are already using Touch ID on your device, the app will use the prints currently stored. This makes it incredibly simple and secure to quickly and easily accessing banking information. No more typing passwords, just touch and go!

The Account Summary screen is no-longer accessible with VoiceOver. In fact once on this screen you can’t even back out of this screen using VoiceOver and the app must be taken out of the app switcher before anything else can be done with it, however OCR of a screenshot reveals the expected information. I am using an iPhone 8 iOS version 12.0.1.
