See the record-shattering series about Jesus that has a 9.9 on IMDb.
MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR
I’ve been a believer my whole life, I’ve attended Christian schools my whole life, and I’ve heard the stories of Jesus countless times. I’ve also seen every Jesus movie and miniseries ever made, and there have been dozens. So why a new TV show about Jesus?
Because I have a passion for people to hear the “old, old story” again … for the very first time. When I see Jesus movies, it’s sometimes hard for me to feel moved or excited. I've heard the stories before, and many Jesus projects just take you from Bible story to Bible story, not spending as much time on the humanity and backstories of all these characters. And they sometimes feel stiff and formal.
So when we started to write a show that explores Jesus through the eyes of those around Him, we were repeatedly moved and excited. We explored the backstories of Simon Peter, Matthew, Mary Magdalene, Nicodemus, and a few of Jesus’ miracle recipients, and in turn experienced Him in the way they did. We couldn’t help but identify with their recklessness, rough pasts, religious piety, and desperation for life change. And ultimately, their redemption.
One of our favorite responses from an early screening? "The story of Jesus that actually appealed to my teenagers!"
No matter where you’re at in your journey with Christ—whether you’re one of the many people in the gospels who encountered Jesus after a horrific past without Him, or you’re a Nicodemus who’s been a lifelong member of the God team—Jesus proved over and over that we have so much to learn and innumerable traits that need change.
We hope this show allows you to see Jesus as they did. The end of the trailer tells you how to watch this show right now.

Accessibility Comments

I give it an A minus for VO accessibility. Buttons are labeled, however the Back button has no label at all when you're inside an episode. Tabs at the bottom of the Home Screen won't indicate if they're selected.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads most page elements.

Button Labeling

Most buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some minor accessibility issues with this app, but they are easy to deal with.

Other Comments

On loading, you're presented with 3 tabs at the top and 5 on the bottom. The 3 at the top indicate if they're selected. The ones on the bottom won't. When you're inside an episode, the play button is easy to find in the middle of the screen. Sorry, the episodes aren't audio described… yet. Other than these, the app is easy to get around and use with VoiceOver.

I really wanted to like this app because fiction that takes place in 1st century Israel is almost exclusively what I write. It's always interesting to see how others handle these types of stories.

Unfortunately, I ended up like the lady in the life alert commercial, as I got into the comments part & couldn't get out. I also found the episode quite hard to follow, lacking video descriptions. I understand they're just coming out of bankrupcy, but providing us w/screen plays & labeled tabs/buttons would at least help. I'd actually have been willing to make a donation had I found it useful, & believe me, I really would have liked to.

My doctor recommended this app. So downloaded it. It was doable but very hard to find the beginning and play the very first episode. So my husband found it on Utube and we've been watching it there on our TV. Hopefully future updates will improve app usage. But the series is excellent and I highly recommend it!

I've been messing with this for a few days now. The buttons are not labelled at all, much less clearly.
The Chosen lacks basic accessibility. Indeed, it is so inaccessible as to be dysfunctional.
I find navigation of the app impossible, the episodes not listed or playable, and I'm utterly shocked that anyone could give this app a good rating.
As a totally blind person with no special skills by which I may make an app accessible. Nor do I have connections with anyone who has such skills. I have no residual sight, nor sighted person, to depend on.
I have an iPhone 12. I don't know the particulars of the software. Apparently, when the article was written, what, about a year and a half ago? The author of this thread found it accessible enough then. I find it just the opposite. I give it an F minus. Is it just me?

You need to look at when the app directory entry was first published. It was over two years ago. At that time, the app could have been more accessible than it is now. I'm not making excuses for the app, just telling you that this is probably a much earlier version of the app being described here.

Thanks for flagging this. It looks like VidAngel has pulled all of their services together in one app. I'll change the directory listing accordingly.

If it ain't broke….
