Works like a charm: of course, the content of the video may not be accessible... and subtitles don't work. Otherwise, it's as advertised and terrific fun and very useful.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

All buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver and is easy to navigate and use.

As of now I use Khan Academy on a daily basis I’m able to learn anywhere I am able to learn at my own pace and when I here some folks argue and make excuses I say you have so many ways of acquiring knowledge

The videos have what is known as transcripts but it’s annoying to try and listen to the video while trying to listen to VoiceOver because VoiceOver will read the transcript. Here’s the funny thing Khan Academy was founded when I was growing up.

Do you guys offer any free foreign language courses or just foreign language courses for that matter? Such as Spanish?

I use Khan Academy to learn math to supplement my school classes and encountered numerous accessibility bugs with VoiceOver that prevented me from completing the exercises without a sighted person's help. I contacted their tech support about those bugs a couple of years ago and received a reply saying that a developer would be contacted about it, but nothing has changed. A few days ago I started using their services again and the bugs were still present, so I contacted their tech support again with another explanation of the issues I was experiencing and received the following response after sending in diagnostics and screen recordings:

Hi Maddy,

Thank you so much for all the information you provided me!

I did some investigations and I was able to find out that our app isn't compatible with screen readers.

We've tested various portions of our site with what we believe to be the most popular screen reader + browser combinations:

JAWS (for Windows) + Google Chrome

VoiceOver (for Mac) + Safari

We're interested in any feedback you might have about your experiences with these screen readers, so please feel free to mention your ideas in our discussion forums as well.

If there's anything else I can do for you, please let me know! Thank you for being part of Khan Academy!

I replied to that message saying that the lack of accessibility in the Khan Academy mobile app was in violation of the ADA, and I am also trying to get in touch with someone who can improve the accessibility of Khan Academy's educational pograms. In the meantime, I think the accessibility rating in this app entry should be changed to reflect the developer's stance on accessibility as well as the bugs present in the software. On another slightly unrelated note, I tested out Khan Academy's website on MacOS with VoiceOver in the Safari web browser, as the tech support representative had suggested, and found that there were serious bugs there as well.

I totally agree with Maddy. I remember testing out the app on my iPad and being upset and unsatisfied with the lack of accessibility provided by the developer. I agree that the rating of this app needs to be changed ASAP and the developer should be contacted about the lack of accessibility.

The tech support representative I was corresponding with just responded to my email. Below is an excerpt:

Maddy, thanks for your latest communication. We're a small non-profit with a big mission, and we do want ALL our learners to be able to access our content. All of our content and courses on our mobile app are also available on our website - so they are comparable in what you are able to learn and choose from. Given the size of our team, we have put our biggest focus on the website, thus our recommendation to use VoiceOver on MacOS in the Safari browser.

From this communication, I can only gather that Khan Academy does not care about the accessibility of their mobile app at all, and are therefore leaving it in its current, mostly-inaccessible state, which is not optimal under any circumstances. However, as I mentioned before in this thread, there was another ordeal relating to the accessibility of Khan Academy's website with MacOS in Safari, which I am currently trying to troubleshoot with the tech support representative. However, until this is resolved and the Khan Academy mobile app has been modified so that it is usable with screen readers, I am still hoping that the accessibility rating can be changed to more accurately reflect the status quo.

This is surprising since they advertise their website and the mobile app in the same manner what frustrates me the most is the fact that the developers say bug fixes and enhancements and yet visual enhancements get added

I totally agree. The rating needs to be changed for this app. It doesn't matter how big or small the company is... this app should be accessible to everyone.

Yeah, it's extremely frustrating that even though the developers of the app can add so many new features for the sighted community they can't be bothered to label a few buttons for our sake. It's especially disappinting since many blind people don't have access to laptops; they only have their phones which the developer hasn't accounted for. I really hope other people will see this thread and contact Khan Academy support, and that the person in charge of this app directory entry can ammend it to reflect recent events.
