AudioBooth is a streamlined iOS audiobook app designed exclusively as a client for the self-hosted Audiobookshelf server. The app focuses on what matters most for audiobook listeners: a fast, clean, and distraction-free listening experience.
Built specifically for audiobooks, AudioBooth provides all essential features expected from a modern audiobook player, including variable playback speed, sleep timer, chapter navigation, progress synchronization across devices, and offline downloads for listening without an internet connection. Users can browse their Audiobookshelf library by books, authors, series, and collections, and continue listening in the background while using other apps.
The app integrates deeply with iOS, offering lock screen media controls and Apple Watch support for basic playback control and library browsing. The interface follows native iOS design conventions, making it easy to understand and consistent with system behaviors.
Note: AudioBooth requires an existing Audiobookshelf server to function and does not include any media content.
Accessibility Comments
AudioBooth is exceptional. In my experience, it is the most accessible audiobook app I have tested on iOS. The app is fully usable with VoiceOver, with clear focus order, properly labeled controls, and logical navigation throughout the entire app. All core listening features — library browsing, playback, chapter navigation, downloads, and progress tracking — can be used independently by blind users.
Accessibility is clearly a core design goal rather than an afterthought. The developer is very open to feedback, responsive to accessibility reports, and actively improves the app based on user input. Updates are frequent, and accessibility-related issues are addressed quickly.
